Magnesium Oxide Boards and Evoba Ceiling Deliveries

This week we got two BIG deliveries. The first was a whole container of our wallboard and ceiling boards, and floor underlayment...Magnesium Oxide Boards from Asia, imported by Magnum Building Materials. This company has been a pleasure to work with. The second truck, which arrived before the first had even left, was a Fed Ex truck with two pallets of the Evoba Coffered Maple Ceiling Components. This company has also been a pleasure to deal with. I can recommend them both highly.

The bluebird couple that built a nest in the metal 'pocket' on the underneath side of the boom on the crane is really active now....the eggs have HATCHED ! Today I was up on the top floor trying to catch a photo of the momma bird flying in and out of the nest. The men told me that the really funny thing is that the birds will hold on to the wire cables of the crane and ride them up until it gets to a certain height then they jump off and take flight. We talked about them being Circus Birds who might have escaped circus life to raise a family. I made a little video of the birds, but I have not seen it yet to know if you can hear the chirping. When that crane boom goes up and down, those little birdies must think the world is a wacky place cause the angle changes so much. They'll be ready for the circus when they grow up for sure.

See the bluebirds in video: COMING once Google makes it available to me. I uploaded it 5/29/08
An attempt was made to lift the whole container. Mike and the guys hooked cables and straps to the top of the shipping container. Mike said that the crane could have lifted it but the straps and cables that we had on hand were just not rated to support such weight. We were able to use the crane to slide the smaller unit of goods out and onto a pallet on the ground. After that, the rest was unloaded by hand. It was a long hard day. Part of the contents were for a couple other jobs, so we had to sort thru the magnesium oxide boards and sheets to figure out what was for our job and what was not.

Sheetrock substitute wallboardMagnesium Oxide, Magnum Boards , can be used as trim boards on a house. We plan to use it for flooring underlayment, ceilings, and wall boards as a Sheetrock substitute. I just do not want to use any gypsum board that would melt if it got wet in hurricane conditions. Plus gypsum board can grow mold and mildew.

MagnumŽ Board (Magnesium Oxide Board or MgO Board) is a technologically advanced building material that offers superior performance in every category when compared to traditional wood, gypsum and cement based products.

Magnum Board Magnesium Oxide Board MgO BoardJust as the men were finishing up unloading the container of MagnumŽ Board (Magnesium Oxide Board or MgO Board) we got a phone call that the FedEx ground truck with our Evoba Ceiling was on its way from Orange Beach. It was a hot day and our poor workers from New Stone Age Builders stayed and worked till the all of the good were unloaded.

The Master distributor for Magnum Board is Centerhill Building Materials.

This is a photo of most of the magnesium oxide boards we received. The photo was taken from the top floor.

Coffered ceiling delivery truck Unloading the Evoba maple ceiling from Acoustical Ceiling Products.
Ryan on a ladder stacks boxes of the Evoba Ceiling System on top of the kitchen counters in the guesthouse. The ceiling components are beautifully packed to protect against damage.
The guesthouse is filled with the carefully packed boxes of our Evoba Wood Ceiling System natural maple coffered ceiling. It is this fabulous wood ceiling that will be used on the living room and kitchen areas. This ceiling from Acoustic Ceiling Products is varnished natural colored maple and I plan to experiment with a light whitewash treatment to give it a bit of a light, casual touch. The ceiling comes in several prefinished color stains in oak and cherry as well as the maple. The cherry is scrumptious, but a bit dark for this situation.
This is going to be one totally gorgeous ceiling. The pieces are precision cut to fit together perfectly. In the last shot, I just set two of the short rail pieces along the perimeter of the 2 ft x 2 ft center panel piece so you can see how the coffered ceiling effect will be. I would like to varnish the back side of all the pieces w/ clear water based varnish for extra protection from hurricane's fury but I do not know if I will have time. I also want to do a light white-wash on the natural maple color. I will need to experiment a bit to see what works best for me.

I can easily imagine doing a stenciled painted pattern on these ceiling panels. In fact, I can see all sorts of classy effects in my mind's-eye, but I only have one area to do and it is a large, irregular space, so I have to chose from all the options that come to mind. Evoba Wood Ceiling System

Trouble is that I am scheduled for thumb surgery in about 5 days. Both thumbs,,,ouch...so I hope I have a quick recovery.

My ceiling will be a lighter color, but isn't this fabulous !!! I wish I could do this color in my bedroom, but I am thrilled to be able to have the maple Evoba Ceiling in the living room and kitchen. Since it is made by a company that makes those typical hanging acoustical tile ceilings that are everywhere, they tell me that any installer that can do those ordinary drop ceilings can install this system. I think it is just incredible looking.
